Social Projects
Alpaca Expeditions is passionate about helping others. As a leading tour operator in the Cusco region, we are greatly aware of our responsibility to take care of those around us in need. In response to our awareness of such responsibility, we have created a number of social projects that directly impact and benefit the local communities in which we work.
Knowing Ours Program
Unfortunately, many children from nearby Andean communities do not have the opportunity to visit the archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley and Cusco. Despite their close proximity, many of them are never taught of the historical importance of these sites.
In hopes of changing this pattern, we started our ¨Knowing Ours¨program. As a tour operator, we reach out to the various Andean communities in Cusco and the Sacred Valley and arrange day field trips for the children. In the field trips, we include visits to the most important archaeological sites in the region. These field trips are organized with the purpose of educating the children of surrounding communities. The field trips are structured to give children the opportunity to visit the sites as tourists.
Community Teacher
Education is far from perfect in Peru. This is even more evident in smaller Andean communities where education is limited and often not consistent. Many children in this situation, only have access to basic, rudimentary education but are left with little hope of continuing their education or even learning more than just the basics.
We decided to implement the help of a licensed teacher in one of the communities we work closely with. To do so, we hired the teacher and sent him to the community so he can teach
