Exploring the Andes with the right guide can completely transform the experience.

Our professional guides are local to the Cusco region and have spent years exploring and studying the mountains, archaeological sites, communities, and trekking routes they now share with travelers.

They combine professional tourism qualifications with extensive practical experience on routes such as the Inca Trail, Lares Trek, Choquequirao, Salkantay, and many other destinations throughout the Andes.

Safety is an essential part of their training. Our guides receive preparation in mountain safety and first aid and are trained to manage the challenges that can arise when traveling at altitude.

But their role goes far beyond logistics.

Our guides are storytellers, cultural interpreters, and ambassadors for their homeland.

Good food becomes especially important when you are spending several days trekking through the mountains.

Our professional trekking chefs prepare fresh meals every day, often in remote locations thousands of meters above sea level.

Many members of our culinary team come from communities throughout the Cusco region and bring with them knowledge of traditional Peruvian ingredients and flavors.

Meals are prepared using fresh ingredients whenever possible and are carefully planned to provide the energy and nutrition travelers need during demanding days of trekking.

Depending on the expedition, our chefs prepare complete breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks, and hot drinks throughout the journey.

We can also accommodate a variety of dietary requirements, including:

Our porters are one of the most important parts of Alpaca Expeditions.

They are men and women primarily from rural farming communities throughout the Cusco region who make multi-day trekking expeditions possible.

Many come from families that have lived in the Andes for generations.

They carry essential expedition equipment, transport food and camping supplies, help prepare campsites, and ensure everything is ready before travelers arrive after a day of hiking.

Their work requires extraordinary strength, discipline, organization, and knowledge of the mountains.

But our porters are much more than the people who carry equipment.

They are farmers, parents, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and community members whose lives and traditions are deeply connected with the Andes.

Alpaca Expeditions has worked to promote better conditions and opportunities for trekking porters, including supporting the participation of both men and women in the profession.

In many cases, several members of the same family work within our trekking teams.

Whether you are leaving Cusco before sunrise for the beginning of the Inca Trail or returning to your hotel after several days in the mountains, our transportation team coordinates each transfer as part of the overall expedition logistics.

Vehicles are maintained to provide travelers with a safe and comfortable journey while our team manages routes, departure times, luggage, and coordination with guides and operations staff.
